Designing homes can be a ton of fun! There are so many styles to choose from, making home design a wonderful art form with seemingly endless opportunities! However, farmhouses are my favorite home design styles. The warm natural woods, colors and decorations make up a cozy atmosphere just waiting to be taken in with awe. So, in this article, I will be giving some farmhouse interior design ideas to help spark imagination for your future home!
Open Concept Floorplan

In my opinion, open concept is the best floorplan for any home, especially for farmhouses. It gives flow to the house, making it great for those who love to entertain. But what is open concept? Open concept is a combination of the kitchen, living room and dining room all in one large room. See how great it can be for entertaining? Everyone is technically in the same room. You can be cooking in the kitchen while talking to your guests who could be sitting on the couch in the living room or at the dining room table! Amazing, isn’t it?
Wood Beams

The wood elements of a farmhouse design will probably be the first thing you notice when looking at the interior of a farmhouse. Wood beams are the most eye-catching, especially if the ceilings are vaulted. If the house is a single story, the ceilings can be vaulted, and wood beams can be added for structural support or just for the decorative impact. This is my favorite use of wood beams, as the vaulted ceilings make the room feel very spacious and open, while the wood beams add character!
Kitchen Aspects

The kitchen is my favorite room in a house! It’s where families and friends spend a lot of their time together. So, what are some design ideas to make your kitchen a cozy place to hang out? Let’s start with color. Farmhouse kitchen colors tend to be warm, natural colors. Like warm white, grays or beige. You could also get extra traditional with warm, dusty blues or warm greens, like sage. Natural wood elements, like countertops, bring out the cozy farmhouse feel. Porcelain farmhouse sinks are also very common in farmhouses; you can even get some with simple but cool designs on the front! A vent hood cover might be the main eye catcher in the kitchen. They come in many different styles and colors and add so much character to the whole room!
Living Room Aspects
The living room is the next best place to hang out, and the main statement piece in all living rooms is the fireplace. I’m talking about tall stone fireplaces that reach the ceiling. Real wood-burning fires, even gas fireplaces, bring so much comfort to the space! Pair it with a large wooden mantle and you’ve got yourself a cozy farmhouse living room. The color palate will be the same as the kitchen with the warm, natural colors.

Some more elements that bring the cozy farmhouse feel into your living room are big windows. Large windows bring in a ton of natural light, making the room feel more open and inviting. The living room is also where the vaulted ceilings and wood beams come into play. Pair these with the large windows, and you have a big open and inviting space to hang out with your family and friends!
Dining Room Aspects

The dining room is where the whole family can enjoy the home-cooked meal you made in your beautiful, cozy farmhouse kitchen. The color palate will be pretty much the same as the kitchen and the living room. You will also want some wood textures added to the dining room, like the dining table. The dining table is the main statement piece of this space. Dining tables are typically made of wood in most home designs, as they can be durable and more aesthetically appealing. Buying an expandable dining room table will be especially helpful when entertaining. When you are hosting a big party, you can expand the table so that it can fit more people; and when it’s just you and your family, you can reduce the table to its normal size to maximize the space in your dining room. Something else you might want to add is a chandelier above the dining room table. It gives great lighting, and with the right design choice, it can really tie in that farmhouse look you’re looking for!
You can never be too young to plan out your dream home. If anything, when the time comes for you to buy or build your home, you won’t be regretting the early start you got on planning the design! Plus, it’s just plain fun to look at all the creative designs!
