Happy Holy Week!

The VOX Writer’s Quill Team and I are super excited about our next prompt! This week I solicited the aid of the amazing Venerable Fulton J. Sheen for our prompt.
I’ve been doing a lot of reflecting on friendships lately, and this quote from Venerable Sheen really spoke to me! So, without further ado…

In every friendship hearts grow and entwine themselves together, so that the two hearts seem to make only one heart with only a common thought. That is why separation is so painful; it is not so much two hearts separating, but one being torn asunder.

— Venerable Fulton J. Sheen

From this quote write a story about the separation of two friends.. How do they feel? Is the separation permanent? Do they find each other again? Why are they separating? It is not necessary that this quote be directly in your story, but it’d be nice if you began your story with this quote, or ended it with it. Maybe this story takes place during a different time period…maybe someone is going off to war….maybe the friend dies….maybe it’s about one of the Apostles and Jesus…maybe it’s about two slaves who are separated…

Anyway, lots of possibilities, lots of ideas! This prompt gives you quite a bit of freedom, so get creative, have fun, and start writing! Good luck! I can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Submissions are due by midnight on Wednesday, April 4th. Please send your entries to [email protected].
