Brookies- The Best of Both Worlds

Some say you can’t have the best of both worlds. This recipe says otherwise. Ever wanted to try two of your favorite foods in ONE BITE? Yes, you read that right. Brookies is a fabulous creation of brownies and chocolate chip cookies that you will be dying to try.  For those of you who gave up treats for Lent, this is something you can look forward to on a Sunday or perhaps even Easter! So turn up the music, get in your cozy clothes and slippers and get ready for some baking fun!

I know you are all dying to try these now, so let’s get started!

Brownie Mixture

-⅔ cup soft butter

– ⅔ cup sugar

-⅔ cup brown sugar

-1 egg

-1 egg yolk

-1 tsp vanilla

-1 ½ cup flour

-½ cup cocoa

-1 tsp baking soda

-½ tsp baking powder

-½ tsp salt

Chocolate Chip Cookie Mixture

-⅔ cup soft butter

– ⅔ cup sugar

-⅔ cup brown sugar

-1 egg

-1 egg yolk

-1 tsp vanilla

-2 ¼ cup flour

-1 tsp baking soda

-½ tsp baking powder

-½ tsp salt

-1 ½ cup chocolate chips

The recipe is a little complicated because you will be making two things at once. But just follow closely, and we will get through this together! Plus, you will make these so many times in the future that you will probably have the recipe memorized.

Get out two large mixing bowls and your measuring cups and spoons. The first bowl will be for your brownie mixture, and the second will be for your chocolate chip mixture.

In each bowl, place ⅔ of a cup of soft butter, ⅔ of a cup of white sugar and ⅔ of a cup of brown sugar. Stir the mixture well.

Next you will take four eggs. Each bowl needs 1 full egg and 1 egg yolk. To get the yolk, separate the egg yolk from the white. Egg whites make great omelets so don’t throw them away! Add your eggs into each bowl.

Add in 1 teaspoon of vanilla to each bowl and beat until both mixtures are creamy.

Now that you have both mixtures, we are going to focus on the brownie mixture for a little while. Take out a medium sized bowl. Combine 1 and ½ cups of flour, ½ of a cup of cocoa, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, ½ of a teaspoon of baking powder and ½ of a teaspoon of salt. Mix it up well.

Take the flour mixture and mix it into one of your sugar and butter mixtures. Up until this point they are both identical so it doesn’t matter which you use. Mix it up until it is just combined; this is now your brownie mixture! Stick it in the fridge to chill for a little while while you complete your chocolate chip cookie dough.

Now take the bowl that you used for your last flour mixture. Add 2 ¼ cups of flour, 1 teaspoon of baking soda, ½ of a teaspoon baking powder and ½ of a  teaspoon of salt. Mix it up well!

Add the flour mixture into the sugar mixture and add 1 ½ cups of chocolate chips. Congrats, the hard part is over! Now you should have two bowls, one with some delectable brownie dough and the other with some scrumptious chocolate chip cookie dough. Try not to eat it all; they taste really good when the are cooked as well, I promise.

Now comes the fun part! Take a small bit of brownie dough in your hands and roll it into a ball. Do the same with the chocolate chip cookie dough, and then simply smash the two of them together and gently roll them around in your hands until they form one ball. Place them on a lightly greased cookie sheet. Make sure your oven is preheated to 350 degrees.

Now simply repeat until you have all your cookie dough used up!

Stick them in the oven for between 10-13 minutes, but keep an eye on them because the time will change depending on your oven and the size of your cookies.

When they are done, take them out and allow them to cool on the pan for 2-3 minutes. It might feel like 2-3 hours, but trust me, it will be worth it. Good luck keeping your siblings from stealing them all away from you; here is my 2-year-old sister caught red-handed stealing cookies before they were even in the jar.

Once they have cooled a bit, call your friends and family and pour a bunch of glasses of milk and enjoy.

You’re welcome.
