Interviewing a MODG High School Small Business Owner

What is your name, age and grade?
My name’s Colette. I am 15 and in 10th grade.

What are some things you do in your free time?

I love to read, dance, draw, and work on my small business.

What is the name of your business and what do you sell?
My business’s name is MochiMonkeyCo. I sell hand-drawn sticker sheets, art prints, and decals. I am also selling totes and pencil pouches in person, but I am hoping to get them on my Etsy hopefully soon.

How long have you owned a business?
I have owned a business for 1.5 years.

Has it been difficult managing your business with everything else that goes on in your life? How do you do it?
It is quite challenging managing school, dance, and a business. I manage my time, and make sure to prioritize my other activities so at the end of the day I can work on designing and creating more products.

Do you have any tips or advice for students who would like to start their own business but are unsure about it?
Make sure you know you can handle it before getting started, create a large variety of stock, create things that you love to make, do a lot of research, and most importantly have fun and don’t doubt yourself and your abilities.

You can find Colette’s shop, MochiMonkeyCo, on Etsy here!
