This week Judge Barrett will have her first day on the job as an associate justice of the Supreme Court. Monday, the Senate confirmed Judge Barrett as an associate justice. That evening, Judge Barrett took the oath of her office, administered by Associate Justice Clarence Thomas. Tuesday, Judge Barrett was sworn in at the Supreme Court by Chief Justice Roberts.
Judge Barrett has had many titles: Federal Judge, Judge of the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, clerk for the late Justice Antonin Scalia, a litigator and professor and, most importantly, wife, and a mother of 7.
This accomplished woman is “an exceptionally impressive jurist and an exceedingly well-qualified nominee to the Supreme Court of the United States” as Mitch McConnell, Senate Majority Leader, stated. She was born in New Orleans, LA, in 1972.
Amy Coney Barrett comes from a long and impressive line of education and experience. She is an undergraduate at Rhodes College, she graduated summa cum laude from Notre Dame Law School, in addition to receiving the Hoynes Prize there. Barrett would later return to Notre Dame Law School as a professor.
Judge Barret was appointed to sit on the Advisory Committee on Federal Rules of Appellate Procedure. She also clerked for D.C. Circuit Judge Laurence Silberman and for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia.
Currently, Judge Amy Coney Barrett is serving for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, for which she was nominated in 2017 by President Trump.
This exceptional lady has many more accomplishments and in her many positions over the years, Amy Coney Barrett has made it clear that she values putting the Constitution first in law, as any good judge should.
Quoting the President of the United States, “Amy is more than a stellar scholar and judge; she is also a profoundly devoted mother. Her family is a core part of who Amy is”. Barrett values her job as a mother and a wife deeply. Her family is made up of seven children, two of whom were adopted from Haiti. Her youngest has Down Syndrome and is clearly a favorite in the family, as she said herself. They are a family of nine from Indiana, whose mother is potentially going to join another family of nine, the Supreme Court.
Judge Amy Coney Barrett has the experience, the work ethic and the awards to speak for themselves on the matter of whether or not she should become the next Supreme Court Justice of the United States of America.
